1949-Pavilion-inside

It’s a little hard to see details, but here is just about the only photo I’ve found so far of the inside of the early Sauble Beach Pavilion, c. 1950. I remember dad was always tremendously proud of that dance floor, which was beautiful varnished wood. Years later in the sixties one of my regular Pavilion chores would be to scrape blocks of paraffin wax with a cheese grater. Once we had enough shavings they were thrown in handfuls out over the floor just before the doors opened for the night. The wax gave customers a nice slippery surface to dance on, and, dad liked to mention, the floor got a free wax shine into the bargain!
